简历

汪扬教授自2020年10月1日起出任香港科技大学副校长（大学拓展），同时兼任数学系讲座教授。汪教授于2014年加入科大担任数学系系主任，及后于2016年升任为理学院院长。

汪教授是国际知名的学者，研究范畴广泛；他在纯数学及跨学科数学两大范畴发表的研究论文超过100篇，当中不少刊载于顶尖的科学期刊。汪教授于担任理学院院长及数学系系主任期间，成立了香港科技大学大数据生物智能实验室，并推出广受欢迎的大数据科技理学硕士课程。

汪教授于1983年在中国科学技术大学取得数学学士学位后，继而于1990年在哈佛大学取得博士学位。1989年，汪教授于乔治亚理工学院开展其学术生涯，其后在2007年加入美国密歇根州立大学担任数学系主任及教授。他亦曾于2006至2007年间担任美国国家科学基金会的课程主任。

香港科技大学委任汪扬教授为副校长（大学拓展）

香港科技大学（科大）今日宣布委任汪扬教授为下任副校长(大学拓展)，自本年10月1日起生效。

汪扬教授

汪扬教授现为科大理学院院长及数学系讲座教授。汪教授是国际知名的学者，研究范畴广泛；他在纯数学及跨学科数学两大范畴发表的研究论文超过100篇，当中不少刊载于顶尖的科学期刊。他曾于2006至2007年间担任美国国家科学基金会的课程主任。科大经严谨的全球招聘程序委任汪教授。

科大校董会主席廖长城先生对新任命表示欣喜﹕「汪教授具备出色的领导才能及沟通技巧，并了解大学所面对的挑战及发展方向，包括广州校区这个重要的发展计划。凭借汪教授优越的条件，我深信他定能在新职位上促进大学的蓬勃发展，提升科大在本地及国际间的知名度。」

科大校长史维教授欢迎汪教授的新任命，他表示﹕「汪教授对科大具透彻和深入的理解，亦掌握本地与环球脉搏。我相信他能进一步加强科大的影响力、拓展大学与其他伙伴的战略合作关系、为大学争取更多捐款，并深化大学与校友间的联系。我亦想藉此机会，感谢汪教授出任理学院院长时所作出的众多贡献。」

Biography

Prof. Yang Wang took office as Vice-President for Institutional Advancement of HKUST on October 1, 2020. He is also a Chair Professor of Department of Industrial Engineering and Decision Analytics and Department of Mathematics. He joined the HKUST as the Head of the Department of Mathematics in 2014 and he became the Dean of School of Science in 2016.

Prof. Wang is an internationally respected scholar with wide ranging research interests, having published over 100 research journal papers in both pure and interdisciplinary mathematics, many of which in top journals. During his tenure as Dean of Science and Head of Mathematics, Prof. Wang founded the HKUST Big Data Institute and launched the popular Big Data Technology MSc program.

Prof. Wang received his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1983 and obtained his PhD degree in Mathematics from Harvard University in 1990. He started his academic career with the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1989 and then moved on to be the Department Chair and Professor of Mathematics at Michigan State University in 2007. He was also a Program Director at the National Science Foundation in the US between 2006 and 2007.

独家专访香港科技大学副校长汪扬：解码港科大崛起的基因广州校区搭上大湾区发展“顺风车”

“大湾区教育”系列报道。

新冠病毒疫情的大流行，对全球的留学产业带来了沉重一击。“疫情给全世界的高等教育带来了危机。但是，有危也有机。从香港的情况看非常明显，比如2020年的申报人数是明显降低了，但是，今年出现很大的反弹，”香港科技大学副校长汪扬在接受21世纪经济报道记者专访时表示。根据香港科技大学的统计数据，2019-2020学年，该校的非本地生人数达到6358名，其中，来自中国内地的学生人数为4576名，占比近72%。香港科技大学坐落于清水湾海滨，在短短30年间，从无到有，已跻身世界一流大学，被公认为全球高等教育的“奇迹”。2020年《泰晤士高等教育》全球顶尖400所年轻大学排名第一，2021年度《QS全球大学排名》在全球顶尖1000所大学中排名第二十七。作为全国第一经济大省，广东高水平大学与经济地位不相称已是不争的事实。去年12月，教育部、广东省人民政府联合印发《推进粤港澳大湾区高等教育合作发展规划》（下称《规划》）。根据《规划》，到2035年，粤港澳大湾区将建成若干所世界一流水平的高校，产出一批对世界科技发展和人类文明进步有重要影响的原创性科学成果，成为世界高等教育合作发展和创新发展的先进典范。近年来，包括香港科技大学在内的多所香港高校纷纷在大湾区内地城市设立校区。在汪扬看来，“大湾区无疑是未来中国经济发展的最重要的引擎之一。目前香港各所高校，实际上发展空间是相当有限的，如果想要更上一层楼的话，在大湾区建立校区已经成为一个趋势，香港所有高校看的都非常明确。”汪扬向21记者表示，香港高校纷纷“进军”大湾区内地设校区的另一重要因素在于科研经费以及人才、相关产业链的配套，可以真正实现粤港两地的优势互补，“做一些真正的前沿科学研究的话，有时候经费还是不够的，内地的平台要大很多。比如做量子计算机，真正牵涉到整个量子计算机的产业链，在香港做是有一定困难的，内地的平台更合适。”2019年9月获国家教育部批准筹建以來，港科大（广州）在学科规划、组织架构及校园设计等方面均取得积极进展。据了解，港科大(广州)采用独特的枢纽架构模式，以促进融合学科教育、研究及知识转移的发展，涵盖人工智能、金融科技、数据科学与分析、先进材料、微电子等多个新兴领域，有效打破学科间的壁垒及界限。香港高校发展空间有限21世纪：我们了解到，香港科技大学广州校区明年就会正式开学，想了解一下首阶段招生的情况怎么样？汪扬：2022年我们广州校区开学以后，第一阶段，前几年只是以研究生为主，后面我们再开始本科的招生，我们希望能够有大概4000名左右的研究生。其实我们的招生是两年前就开始了，第一期学员我们招了大概100多名，第二期我们又招了150名，今年会招的更多一点。目前看来，招生的数量和质量都是相当不错的。4000人其实是包括了我们的授课型的研究生，授课型的研究生通常要远远多于研究型的。但研究型的研究生我想未来有1000多名我们是可以做到的，跟港科大本校目前的规模差不多。这是我们的计划。21世纪：广州校区的学术特色预计是有哪些？汪扬：这是一个很好的问题，我们跟别的学校有一个比较大的区别，也是我们非常独特的一个地方。就是在广州校区，现在我们的 Moto就是， Unified System Complimentary Campuses（统一体系校园互补）。清水湾校园和广州校区，尽管是两个独立的法人，但是我们是把它作为一个一体的大学，而且两边设的学科是互补的。所以，广州校区那边侧重点是跨学科的。举个例子，我们清水湾校园这边有传统的学科比如说数学、计算机或者物理化学，这些学位在广州校区是没有的；广州校区的学位是一些跨学科的，比如大数据、AI等。学生可以修双学位，就可以在广州那边拿个学位，同时也在清水湾校园拿个学位。21世纪：您刚提到了港科大在广州校区设置的专业，比如说大数据，这跟广东省自身产业的转型升级方面是不是也有一定的契合？汪扬：这是一定的。从广东省，从大湾区来看，我刚才提到的这些包括材料、大数据、AI、机器人和自动控制系统，包括无人驾驶，这些都是在广东省的战略发展计划里面的，是大湾区经济发展的推动力中的很大的一部分。当然还有其他的学科，比如生物科技，实际上也是广州市的一个非常非常重要的布局，广州市邀请我们过去，很大程度上也是看中了我们这方面的实力。21世纪：大湾区未来是否可以打造成一个高等教育的高地，或者你刚提到的双轨制的试验区？汪扬：如果中国要有一个地方开始实验这种双轨制的话，那就是大湾区，一定会走这条路的。中国内地会意识到，高考可能不应该是唯一的一个通道，应该有另外一个通道。高考可以说是一个主流的通道，而且主流通道我想是不会改变的，但是它会允许一些独立的和自主的通道。比如我们广州校区在招生的时候，就是一部分高考一部分自主，混合型的，我觉得完全不能排除这种可能性。科研是港科大核心优势21世纪：港科大是一所非常年轻的高校，1991年才建校，在短短30年间的成绩可以说是有目共睹。你怎么看港科大的核心竞争优势？汪扬：这个问题问得很好。从我自己的经验来看，1990年，当时我在美国毕业了以后去找工作，发现那时候美国工作是挺难找的，然后就听说港科大在招人，我其实也是有点动心的。我知道当时有很多非常优秀的人才，真的是在美国找不到工作，尤其是像物理专业的。港科大作为当时香港的第一所或者唯一的科研型的大学，实际上我们建校的模式是根据美国的研究型大学建立起来的，所以港科大能够得到迅速的腾飞，这也是当时的一个机遇。创立港科大的这些领导的确是很有远见的，他们做了很多事情，因此港科大能在近30年实现腾飞，被认为是高等教育里面的一个奇迹。我们的主要竞争优势是科研。现在香港的所有高校都在谈科研，甚至内地的所有高校也都在谈科研。我相信港科大有一些地方跟别的学校是不一样的，港科大有创业的企业，在香港是绝对排名是第一的，而且在整个大中华地区排名也是名列前茅的。我记得有这么一个数据，就是在（香港）科学园的大概是有8000名员工，里面有3000名是港科大的，然后像大疆、云洲科技，这些企业都是港科大的老师、校友们创建起来的。21世纪：港科大已经培育有一批在国际上都比较知名的科创企业。您觉得高校在产学研合作方面可以发挥什么样的角色？汪扬：大学的创业创新的能力，如果你不去真正去鼓励他的话，实际上是非常难的。从评估标准来看，或者从大学老师的科研方向来看，基本上很多是属于前沿性的基础研究。应用研究的部分，即使有也是偏前瞻性的一些应用研究，真正到落地的这部分还是不多的。从我观察看，应用的那部分科研很多并不是非常前沿的。现在所有的比较成功的企业看，像美团、抖音，你不能说它没有科技，它里面应该是有很强的人工智能的技术，但这些技术你要让教授从科研的角度看，可能并不一定是一个很值得追求的技术，就是在论文方面没有什么值得发表的价值。21世纪：大疆这些高科技的龙头企业，往往发展到一定阶段就可能会进入大湾区内地市场，所以你觉得我们在未来要培育更多这样的企业，如何发挥香港跟大湾区内地其他城市的协同效应？汪扬：必须的，因为就从大疆的发展也可以看得出来，大疆是在港科大孵化的，然后到了科技园，但是很快就意识到市场必须是在内地，因为香港总共才700多万人口，市场是非常有限的。一个公司要成功，必须有一个所谓的经济规模效应。量必须是要大到一定程度，在香港一定是受到局限的，要想发展，必须去开发内地或国际市场。现在粤港澳大湾区的发展给香港大学的创新创业提供了一个非常好的机会，这条路我觉得是很快的，就是更容易被打通。教育“内卷”十分严重21世纪：聊到教育容易想到的词就是“内卷”，还有就是焦虑。作为港科大的副校长，您怎么看教育内卷这样一个现象，它背后有哪些因素？汪扬：内卷是肯定的，因为现在就是，我们考试是一层一层的上来。内地和香港，其实整个亚洲的这种教育系统就是内卷非常非常大的。因为这种应试制导致小孩基本上是没有时间做别的事情。学习不只是学习书本，不只是考试，还有一些别的学习过程，比如说跟人打交道，这些方面不是从书本上可以学的，而必须是在互动中。但事实上，我们的每一步，从起跑线就要开始短跑冲刺。归根到底是整个入学的机制没有改变。21世纪：这样子培养出来的人才，比如这些孩子进入高校或者进入大学之后，是不是能培养出我们想要的那种人才？汪扬：我觉得你要从整个中国的教育体系来看，其实还是不能说是失败，对吧？我们培养了大批的工程师，大批的有一定能力的科技、工程人才。我们培养了这么多这么好的学生，但是为什么我们没有顶尖的学生是吧？在很大意义上说，中国目前的系统对顶尖的人才会有一定的约束，因为他们必须花很多很多的时间在书本上，而创造的时间就少了，对这些顶尖人才最重要是要给他们创造的空间。我们现在整个在大学前的教育里面创造的空间是非常少的。我希望看到内地从中小学开始，逐渐能够给学生们更多的空间去创造。记者：朱丽娜编辑：李艳霞编委：于晓娜视频制作：李群配音：古瑞浩澜（实习生）字幕：李群海报设计：张颖监制：向秀芳方晓茸出品：南方财经音视频制作部 21世纪经济报道海外部

香港科技大学副校长汪扬访问我校

7月20日下午，香港科技大学（香港科大）副校长汪扬（中国科大781校友）访问我校。副校长杨金龙院士在国际楼312会议室主持会谈，深入探讨推进两校科教合作交流事宜。少年班学院、数学科学学院、物理学院、化学与材料科学学院、信息科学技术学院等学院代表，以及研究生院、教务处、港澳台办公室等职能部门相关代表参加座谈。

杨金龙首先对汪扬的到访表示热烈欢迎。他表示，中国科大与香港科大拥有深厚坚实的科教合作基础，一直保持着紧密友好的合作关系，期待以此访问为契机，进一步梳理双方合作资源，凝心聚力，促进深层次、多维度、高水平、互利共赢的双向合作交流机制，助力国家粤港澳大湾区建设和两校高水平研究型大学建设。

汪扬表示，继参加2022年中国科大-香港科大线上签约仪式以及“一流大学建设系列研讨会-2022暨中国大学校长联谊会”后，很高兴再次回到母校访问，期待在两校坚实的合作基础上持续共同努力，进一步深化香港科大与中国科大在教育、研究、创新领域的合作，推进两校合作向更广泛领域以及更深层次发展，不断提升两校高水平人才培养与科研合作校际科教交流平台。

会上，双方就学生交流、研究生联合培养、教师互访、科研合作等方面工作交换了意见，并就后续推进实质性合作内容达成初步共识。
